About the Community School

What makes us different?

We coordinate events as practitioners, learners, and people who contribute to the Library and Information Science community. Join us, learn in community.


Our mission

The We Here Community School seeks to provide a learning community with opportunities for personal and professional development based in anti-racist pedagogy.

 

Courses, webinars, and digital downloads.

We offer asynchronous and synchronous events, including live webinars, three- to five-week courses, and (soon) digital downloads. Courses might exist within a particular series, with work divided into levels (think 101, 201, 301) and our webinars and digital downloads are hyper-super focused on particular topics. All events cover topics for personal and professional development.

We take budgets into consideration.

We recognize that not everyone has a job that provides professional development funding and as a way to help our community take advantage of all the knowledge we (you included) bring to this profession and beyond, we will do everything we can to make our events affordable, without adverse impact on instructional designers. Whenever feasible, we will offer different tiers of pricing and scholarship opportunities to join our events free of cost.

 

Note: It is critical that from time-to-time we provide programming for our membership base only. It supports our mission by providing a safe space, particularly for sensitive topics. These events will be clearly marked as We Here Members Only.

FAQs

  • The We Here Community School provides personal and professional development through courses, webinars, and soon digital downloads. We offer synchronous and asynchronous courses that generally range from 3-5 weeks as well as live and recorded webinars. The goal is to provide affordable learning opportunities based on topics of importance to BIPOC in library and information science professions, grounded in the recognition of systemic racism and oppression.

  • Refund policy for live or recorded events (webinars, seminars) and digital downloads: No refunds.

    Refund policy for courses: Refunds will be honored up to 7 days before the course begins.

  • Yes! See the full Code of Conduct. However, instructional designers may also have their own codes of conduct that attendees will be asked to follow.

  • Yes! If you email us your order number, we can send a receipt directly from our online payment processor.

  • Unless otherwise noted, the Community School will utilize Canvas by Instructure.

  • Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) by Instructure (our Learning Management System) has been evaluated by WebAIM, an independent authority in web accessibility and certifies its substantial conformance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) Version 2.1 Level A and AA.

    More resources: 

    When we host live events, we utilize Zoom. Zoom applications and web pages are compliant with both Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA recommendations, with a few exceptions. Full details can be found here: https://zoom.us/accessibility. The instructional designer can take questions with the Chat function, or live. We utilize Zoom closed captioning for real time transcription.

  • To pay by invoice, please email us at wehereworkshops@gmail.com. We require the following:

    • Fill out a registration form for everyone attending a Community School event.

    • Payment via ACH or credit card, paid through our invoicing platform, sent before the registration deadline.

    • We charge a $5.00 service fee for invoices.

    • Payment and registration form must be completed before the registration date. We are unable to hold seats for any events.
